I. January 2009 upgrade
Biographies
Over 1400 new and expanded biographical notes have been provided for correspondents appearing in EE, including such figures as:
- John Quincy Adams (1767–1848), American president;
- Charlotte Elisabeth Aïssé (1694–1733), Circassian slave and social celebrity;
- Hassuna D'Ghies (b. c. 1792), Libyan government minister;
- János Fekete, count of Galànta (1741–1803), Hungarian aristocrat;
- John Frederick Sackville, 3rd duke of Dorset (1745–1799), English courtier and cricketer;
- Ignatius Sancho (1729–1780), African slave, shopkeeper and author;
- Benjamin West (1738–1820), American painter;
- Frances Wright (1795–1852), Scottish social reformer and author.
Documents
More than 100 new supporting documents have been added, mainly concerned with legal and financial matters, including:
- Voltaire sells his title at court, 27 May 1749;
- Baptismal register certifying the birth of Alexandre Jean Mignot, 3 June 1751;
- Louis XVI orders the seizure of Voltaire's Histoire universelle, 16 December 1753.
MARC records
We have created a unique set of MARC records for letter-writers in EE: over 3500 records are now available for librarians.
